Ride Cedar Valley is a Utah nonprofit corporation organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Organization's mission is to promote youth development, education, physical fitness, good sportsmanship, leadership, and community engagement through organized mountain biking programs, practices, races, skills instruction, trail stewardship, volunteer service, and related educational and recreational activities.
Ride Cedar Valley believes that organized mountain biking provides a unique opportunity to educate young people through structured physical activity, mentoring, environmental stewardship, community service, and outdoor recreation, while making participation accessible to all eligible students regardless of prior cycling experience or financial circumstances.
Ride Cedar Valley is the successor organization to the Cedar Valley MTB Team program, which is being transferred from Flyers Cycling Club (also known as Lake Mountain Bicycle Club), a separate Utah nonprofit. Ride Cedar Valley was formed to continue this same educational program under new, independent governance, with its own board of directors, bylaws, and financial controls.
Ride Cedar Valley operates the Cedar Valley MTB Team, a structured youth mountain biking program serving approximately 100 to 150 students in grades 7 through 12 who reside within the Cedar Valley High School attendance boundaries. Participation is open to all eligible students regardless of prior cycling experience or athletic ability; the Organization does not conduct tryouts or select participants based on athletic performance.
The Organization conducts supervised practices, progressive skills instruction, educational clinics, race support, and leadership opportunities. Student-athletes receive instruction in bicycle handling, braking, cornering, climbing, descending, and obstacle negotiation, along with age-appropriate bicycle maintenance instruction. Coaches reinforce integrity, perseverance, accountability, and sportsmanship throughout practices and competition.
Because the Organization's primary practice trails also serve as a race venue for the Utah High School Cycling League, participants perform organized trail stewardship projects amounting to many hundreds of service hours per year, working alongside local trail organizations, other NICA teams, and public land partners.
Student-athletes participate in interscholastic competitions sanctioned by the Utah High School Cycling League, an affiliate of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA). Competition serves as an extension of the educational program, emphasizing safety, individual improvement, and lifelong enjoyment of cycling.
The Organization also provides scholarships and financial assistance, subject to the availability of funds, to students with demonstrated financial need, helping reduce the extent to which fees are a barrier to participation.
